But at least they used to do the three hankie weepies better. And it's good to see a film where everyone has a semi-normal job, except of course that the women cannot have it all and have to invariably give up their careers for their kids. Who writes such lines? More to the point, who speaks like this?īut of course, Dharma Productions (okay, I shouldn't generalise, they also made Wake Up Sid) is not known for its realism. And worse, rishton ko hamesha bandhke nahin rakh sakte (haven't I heard that one before in Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham?). Tum unke har zakhm, har ansoo ko janti ho. Kareena is at her most unaffected and Kajol is at her fiercest tigressy best.
Kareena Kapoor is good as the younger woman who is the career type and finds it difficult to deal with breakfast schedules and homework timetables. Kajol tries hard, unibrow in place and acting chops on full alert, playing the mom type. The casting is perfect, even Arjun Rampal, who is the prettiest prop in the movie and gives a whole new meaning to furniture porn.
This is, as we all know by know thanks to Mr Johar's relentless promotion, is a remake of Stepmom, the Hollywood original which starred two powerhouses Susan Sarandon and Julia Roberts.
